Gurgia Charities is a registered society with its office located at C/II-154, Raju Park, Khanpur, and New Delhi. It was created in 2003 by a group of like-minded citizens, including government officers, businessmen and eminent citizens with the objective of creating economic self-reliance amongst the rural poor.

It has dedicated itself for improving the lot of impoverished artisans in and around Tilhar, a small town in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Tilhar is a very old town, which had very rich traditions of handicrafts in embroidery, carpet weaving, durrie weaving, stitching, woodcarving, block printing and painting on metal.
